Yeh Meri Family: The Ultimate 90s Throwback Web Series
For all 90s kids, if you haven’t caught TVF’s show Yeh Meri Family yet, you are truly missing out. Our childhoods were a magical time, right before the digital age came. Innocence was still retained, simple joys still existed and we weren’t staring a screen throughout the day. TVF’s tribute to the glorious decade comes through their show Yeh Meri Family starring Mona Singh and Vishesh Bansal.

The setting is the summer of 1998 and Harshu, a 13-year-old boy, is grappling with how to spend his summer vacations. His mother (Mona Singh), his father and his siblings are at home too. Harshu is a typical pre-teen boy who is battling with curfews, friendships and even romances. The storyline is simple and manages to tug at your heart strings at the same time.

The best part? The trip down memory lane that the show manages to take you on. Whether it is siblings fighting over Walkmans, the kiddie birthday parties, playing a game of FLAMES to understand whether your crush likes you back, watching Fashion TV after hours, or even something as simple as waiting for someone’s call by sitting next to the landline. They truly were the best times, simpler and sweeter and that is just what Yeh Meri Family is.

The performances are brilliant, especially by Vishesh Bansal playing Harshu and Mona Singh as his mother, always full of love, but not melodramatic. It is not a show that promises to be more than what it is. It is a simple, sweet story about a family in the 90s. But it is so efficient at being that every few minutes you will find yourself smiling and maybe even shedding a tear or two. It’s hard to come by shows like Yeh Meri Family which is so devoid of pretense that you almost confuse it for your own life, or the life of someone you know. We could do with more shows like this.

Yeh Meri Family reminds us of the smallest things in life that fill our heart with joy and everyone you know could do with that reminder. It is now streaming on TVF Play and Netflix.
